About Us

DCCB is a Concert band - which are very scarce in Northern Ireland - and uses brass, woodwind and percussion. DCCB was started in January 2006 by Gillian Whitla and John Adams and is a fully independent group with committee members elected from among our players to look after the band's business.

Our members include adults and children from all walks of life, so our age-range covers from 6 to 80+. We regularly have 40+ musicians at our weekly rehearsals on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 9pm at Moat Park Pavillions in Dundonald.

The band proudly represents our community at engagements throughout the area for many organisations including Castlereagh Borough Council, NI Hospice, and various primary schools and churches, to name but some.

DCCB's objectives are:

To mentor less experienced musicians, by more experienced players, to help them grow in musicianship and confidence. Each section has a more experienced player who leads and assists those with less experience.
To provide an introduction to ensemble playing for less experienced players
To facilitate musicians returning to playing after "time out"
To let band members (young and old) experience the thrill and professionalism of public performance as a Concert band (brass, woodwind and percussion)
To encourage community involvement in music making
To promote ethos that music is an international language capable of crossing barriers, e.g. social, political, cultural etc.
To recognise, work with and promote cultural diversity through musical choices and an open-to-all band policy which not only provides an artistically enriching and rewarding forum but is also extremely valuable.
To act as a social group, a place where many come to de-stress and have pleasant, positive social interaction with a diverse group of people

If you are interested in joining or booking the band, or would simply like to know more then contact us. We'll be delighted to answer any questions you may have!

More on the Conductor

Our conductor and musical director is Trevor Carter. Trevor was born in the North East of England in December of 1971.  He started playing music at the age of 11 learning the cornet, playing with several brass bands in the area, most notably Ever Ready. By the age of 16 he had passed his Grade 8 (Associated Board) and was approached to join the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.  In 2002 he also took up french horn as a secondary instrument and now teaches cornet, trumpet & horn.

Over the years Trevor has performed in many different Wind Bands & Ensembles and played all genres of music.  He has worked with many professional musicians and performed with celebrities such as Hayley Westenra, Catherine Jenkins and Sir Cliff Richard to name but a few.  Most notably he had the honour to play at Buckingham Palace for Her Majesty the Queen whilst Her Majesty has been hosting garden parties at the Palace.

Trevor took a passion for conducting early on in his musical career and on moving to Northern Ireland with his family was given the opportunity to conduct the Dundonald Community Concert Band.  He took over the baton in August 2011 and with the efforts of the Band members is sure that the Band will go from strength to strength over the coming years.
